Inauguration of UEFA EURO 2012™, a great football feast, is coming up. Warsaw is ready to receive footballers, guests and fans. Residents of the capital and tourists visiting our city during the event will feel safe while cheering footballers on and having fun in the Fan Zone.
- We’ve been waiting for 5 years for this moment, since we were announced the host of UEFA EURO 2012. Now Warsaw is ready. All Warsaw citizens are the Championship hosts. We have never had such an event in Poland before. I would like to thank all the people involved in the work on this project. Now let’s keep our fingers crossed for our football team and may the three weeks of UEFA EURO 2012 be the time of carnival and fun – said Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the Mayor of Warsaw, during the Thursday press conference in the Press Centre in the Palace of Culture and Science.
Jacek Wojciechowicz, the Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, said: – For the past few years we have been investing in facilities that we can now proudly present. The Warsaw-Berlin A2 motorway has just been opened. We have one of the most beautiful stadiums in Europe. The railway connection between the airport and the city centre has been launched. We have also renovated Warszawa Wschodnia, Warszawa Centralna and Dworzec Stadion Railway Stations.
Katarzyna Ratajczyk, the Director of the City Promotion Department, invited both Warsaw citizens and tourists to the Fan Zone. – There is now a new space in the city. We invite all Warsaw citizens and fans to the Fan Zone. It is not only a place where you can watch matches but also the site of cultural events, so we invite everyone to attend concerts and meetings with football players. Events for children and youngsters will also be held here. The entrance is free of charge during 25 days of the Championship – said Ratajczyk.
