The VOD Warszawa platform was developed for Warsaw’s cultural institutions and non-governmental organisations, and above all for the public. Films, performances, concerts, recordings of exhibitions, podcasts - everything constituting the cultural offer of Warsaw theatres, museums, foundations and associations - will be available under a single address.

The creation of was financed by the Capital City of Warsaw and executed by the Andrzej Wajda Film Culture Centre. Starting today, customers can create user accounts for the platform, view previews of the autumn programming, or add the first content to their favourites list.

We created the VOD Warszawa platform to enable Warsaw culture to develop and thrive, to reach an increasingly large audience. This is an excellent solution for those who, for various reasons, have not yet been able to enjoy the abundance of Warsaw’s excellent culture or who, due to the pandemic, have changed their cultural reception habits and means of using cultural resources. Although nothing can replace direct contact with art, our VOD will certainly be an interesting proposal for viewers from all over Poland, said Aldona Machnowska-Góra, Deputy Mayor of Warsaw.

On this new platform, some productions will be ticketed, while others will be made available free of charge. The types of material, the timing and the nature of its availability will be decided by the institutions and organisations mentioned. They are responsible for their publication and create the programme content of the platform, which is a digital reflection of what is happening in Warsaw’s culture.

Throughout the past year, we have felt and learned more intensely than ever before about the possibilities of creating and experiencing art offered by interactive digital platforms and tools. We will be able to preserve this knowledge, skills and mechanisms developed due to the existence of the VOD Warszawa platform. The experience will stay with us and complement our participation in culture and experiencing art, said Joanna Rożen-Wojciechowska, director of the Andrzej Wajda Film Culture Centre.

Safe, friendly, accessible

The platform has been designed using friendly technological solutions that guarantee high quality and comfort in contact with digital culture. It includes, among other things, recorded performances, concerts, guided tours of exhibitions, films, educational material, radio reports, podcasts, audiobooks, novels in episodes, texts - not least multimedia. The platform also enables streaming of live events. In a few weeks, it will be available as a mobile application.

Moreover, the new place in the network is safe for creators: the system does not allow recording of shared materials or saving them on disk, and does not allow a non-logged-in user to activate links copied from the platform (it will be necessary to log in and pay for paid content).

The materials available on the platform will be marked with information on age restrictions and parental control will be possible within the user account.

The platform is friendly and accessible. Bearing in mind people with disabilities, materials (e.g. concerts, performances or films) can be provided with audiodescription, subtitles or sign language translation. Non-Polish speakers will be able to change the navigation language to English, Russian or Ukrainian, and institutions will be able to provide audiovisual content in four languages (either as subtitles or as content with voiceover translation).
