Warsaw has a new Mayor

Rafał Trzaskowski was sworn in as the Mayor of Warsaw at the 1st session of Warsaw City Council in the 2018-23 term. He was elected to the office by obtaining 56.6% of the votes cast by Varsovians.

"Mr Mayor, I don’t like to give advice, but Warsaw is a demanding city when it comes to management. There is so much work and issues to tackle”. - said Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the outgoing Mayor of Warsaw. “Dear Rafał, don’t you ever forget it was the people of Warsaw who chose you. They will defend you in your time of need. This service is for the sake of the people. They are our employers,” underlined H. Gronkiewicz-Waltz.

My plan for Warsaw has won the support of more than half a million men and women of Warsaw – Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw, said after the swearing in. I can feel this duty. I would like to clearly declare that I will perform my duties day after day. I will implement my programme prepared in collaboration with Koalicja Obywatelska not only for the benefit of those who elected and supported me. The motto of my campaign was “Warsaw for all”, and by following this idea, I will also take care of their interests,” underlined the new Mayor of Warsaw.

He also addressed Councillors, who took the oath at this session, by saying:
Cooperation with the Council will be my paramount priority. Full transparency, cooperation at the planning stage and at all subsequent stages – this is my and my colleagues' commitment to the Council, which I am making today.
There was time for promises, now it is time to keep them. There was time for discussions and clashes of opinion, not it is time for joint work benefiting the men and women of Warsaw,” highlighted R. Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw.
The wording of the oath of the Mayor of Warsaw:
By taking the office of the Mayor of Warsaw, I hereby swear to keep the law, and to hold the office entrusted to my solely for the public good  
and the welfare of the residents of the City of Warsaw”

Rafał Trzaskowski was born on 17 January 1972 in Warsaw. He graduated in English Studies at the University of Warsaw, where he defended his doctorate in 2004.  A Member of the Parliament in the 8th term of the Sejm and Deputy Chair of the EU Committee, Vice-President of the European People’s Party, analyst and university lecturer. On 21 October 2018 R. Trzaskowski won the Mayor of Warsaw elections by obtaining 56.6% of all votes. He was sworn in on 22 November 2018. He is married and has two children.
