The Special Olympics European Summer Games had its opening ceremony on 18 Sep. 2010 at the Legia Stadium in Warsaw and all the competitions were finished by 23 Sep.

About ELIOS

Special Olympics is an international sports organization established in the 1960’s in the United States. The idea of Special Olympics is that, with appropriate motivation and guidance, each person with intellectual (a physical nie?) disabilities can train, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team competitions.

PARTICIPANTS

The number of  participating countries was amazing. Warsaw was visited by 58 national troops (countries), which was 1600 athletes, 600 coaches, 2000 volunteers, 200 officials, 250 medicals,1500 family members supporting their sportsman.
There were many disciplines like athletics, table tennis, 7-a-side female football, basketball, tennis, weight lifting, bowling, roller skating and badminton.

One of the main co-organizer of ELIOS 2010 was the City of Warsaw.
