This year on ul. Świętokrzyska and Powstańców Warszawy square there will be more trees and shrubs. The Municipal Roads Administration has announced the tender procedure for the preparation of a detailed greenery design.

Ul. Świetokrzyska where Varsovians go for walks today is an effect of the street renovation (from ul. M.Kopernika to the ONZ roundabout) after the construction of the central section of line II of the subway. It was then that the sidewalks were extended and laid with stone slabs, parking places were set out anew, bike lanes and new pedestrian crossings appeared. Because of the thick network of underground infrastructure the greenery appeared on the street in the form of plantings in pots but the effect was not satisfactory. This year at ul. Świętokrzyska there will be more greenery.

Changes at ul. Świętokrzyska and Powstańców Warszawy square are an effect of voting by inhabitants within the participatory budget. Municipal Roads Administration has just announced the tender procedure for a detailed design documentation that precedes new plantings of trees and shrubs. According to the assumptions of the project submitted in the participatory budget the inventory-taking of the existing street greenery will be prepared as well as small architecture and the network of underground infrastructure along the whole ul. Świętokrzyska. The Contractor selected in the tender procedure will have, among others, to prepare and agree the principles of planting of trees near underground networks and the method of their protection against roots. Having agreed the possibilities of new plantings two options of consistent and elegant arranging of green areas matching the modernized space of the street will be created.

Changes will also affect Powstańców Warszawy square. After the lifting conducted two years ago the square gained a new pavement and an aesthetic small architecture. There is also the greenery, however, many persons did not like colour planters in which it was placed. Now, in accordance with the postulate submitted in the participatory budget one will prepare a low cost concept of changes at the square. Instead of the pots there will be low greenery planted in the ground.

The inhabitants will participate in the changes at ul. Świętokrzyska and Powstańców Warszawy square. From March to June, ZDM will carry out social consultations – there will be meetings, walks and workshops. Comments and proposals will be considered in the final design. The documentation is supposed to be prepared within a few months. New trees and shrubs shall be planted in the autumn –as a result of which they will be able to root in the winter period and go green in spring.
