
The largest documentary film festival in Poland and one of the biggest in the world, Millennium Docs Against Gravity will take place in Warsaw from 12 to 21 May. The programme includes many films about cinema greats the likes of David Lynch, Jean-Luc Godard, Jane Campion, Werner Herzog and Alfred Hitchcock.
Celebrated filmmakers
The jubilee edition of MDAG is an excellent opportunity to take a look at not only the artistic output of outstanding directors but also to reflect on the responsibility that rests on documentary filmmakers. This is theme of the film "Subject", directed by Jennifer Tiexiera and Camilla Hall.
Cyril Leuthy's "Godard Cinema" traces the experiments pursued by Jean-Luc Godard, his obsessions and discoveries over decades of uninterrupted work. In turn, Thomas von Steinaecker has created an in-depth portrait of a unique artist in his production "Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer".
Another equally colourful figure from the world of cinema is David Lynch. Film director Alexandre O. Philippe, well-known to festival audiences, talks about Lynch's fascination with "The Wizard of Oz" in "Lynch/Oz". Meanwhile, Julie Bertuccelli takes a closer look at the legendary Jane Campion in the film "Jane Campion: The Cinema Woman".
Jubilee festival
The 20th-anniversary edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity will take place from 12-21 May 2023 in cinemas in eight Polish cities – Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznań, Katowice, Łódź, Bydgoszcz and Lublin – and online – from 23 May to 4 June on the mdag.pl platform.
MDAG is one of the world's largest international documentary film festivals. As many as 138,000 people attended the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival in 2022. The event presents films addressing a wide array of relevant topics, such as the natural environment, politics, psychology, human rights, art, pop culture and family relationships.
