30 November, marks the end of the fourth Veturilo season. City bikes leave the capital’s streets, and they will not return until spring 2016.
„Bikers, thank you all for another successful season. City bikes were extremely popular: you rented them more than 1.9 million times. Next year, we will continue to expand the system and build new infrastructure. We will also choose a new Veturilo operator,” says Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the President of the Capital City of Warsaw.
In the past season (ending on 30 November), users had at their disposal 204 stations and more than 3 thousand bikes. The system registered more than 1.9 million rentals and a record-breaking influx of new users.
And what about the following years? The city will continue to expand the city bike system. Next year, a new operator will be selected, as the contract with the company Nextbike Polska expires at the end of November. Public consultation on the Veturilo users’ expectations has already finished, and the call for tender will be launched at the beginning of the next year. Infrastructure investments will be equally important: in two years, Warsaw will gain 120 km of new bike paths. Currently, the bike network in the capital is more than 445 km long.
