On 4 November, the first municipal ice rink was opened! The indoor ice rink will operate within the OSiR [Sports and Leisure Centre] Targówek facilities, at Łabiszyńska 20. Subsequent rinks will be successively commissioned until mid December. During the 2016/2017 season, there will be sixteen municipal ice rinks available.
“I am sure that Warsaw winter sports enthusiasts will be pleased in the upcoming season. There will be 16 rinks available for skaters, including the most popular ones on Old Town Square and in front of the Palace of Culture and Science. The first municipal rink will be opened already this Friday. In Targówek, skaters will have an opportunity to enjoy a special, illuminated ice surface,” said Renata Kaznowska, Deputy Mayor of Warsaw.
The ice rink in Targówek will be open every day from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm. There will be a rental shop offering skates, helmets and „penguins” used by children for training purposes.
The major attraction of the rink is the ice surface illuminated with LED strips. This year, there will be even more light. Additionally, the rink is equipped with a comprehensive sound system.
