Applications for sports scholarships from the Capital City of Warsaw for 2024 are now open. Talented athletes or their parents, as well as coaches, can do so until 2nd January next year.

Warsaw supports the development of sporting talents by awarding scholarships to the most outstanding. In 2023, 40 athletes received Olympic scholarships, 395 young athletes received youth scholarships and 11 received coaching scholarships. The city has earmarked more than PLN 4.1 million for this.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

The rules for awarding capital sports scholarships are set out in Resolution No. XXXVII/1157/2020 of the Council of the Capital City of Warsaw of 24th September 2020.

In order to receive the scholarship:

  • you must be a resident of Warsaw,
  • may not collect or apply for another sports scholarship,
  • you must have an outstanding sporting performance (in a discipline/competition included in the Youth Sports System - YSM or  the Paralympic Games or the Deaflympics Games included in the programme).

The sports requirements are described in detail in the aforementioned resolution. For example, a youth scholarship entitles the holder to place 1st to 3rd at the Polish junior, youth or senior championships. Or, for example, places 1 to 6 in the world championships.

For the coaching scholarship, at least one athlete or player meeting the above criteria must be coached.
