On 4 June 2022 – on the anniversary of the 1989 elections, after which communism in Poland ended – Warsaw will celebrate. In the morning the city will organise the Regatta for the Mayor of Warsaw's Cup on the Vistula River, in the afternoon there will be a parade.
Regatta on the Vistula River
The Regatta for the Mayor of Warsaw's Cup is scheduled for June 4-5 next weekend. Participants will be able to compete in four classes – Open, Omega Standard, Omega Sport and Retro. The organisers expect a total of approx. 30-35 yachts. If the weather permits, there will be 14 races for each category. The Mayor of Warsaw's Cup – awarded in each class – will be won by those who will be the best in the whole series.
The regatta will begin on Saturday, June 4, at 11 o'clock. Between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the demonstration Champions Regatta will be held. On Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the race for the Mayor of Warsaw's Cup will be continued.
During this time, those who are willing will also be able to participate in free canoeing trips funded by the city from the Saska beach (at the Łazienkowski Bridge) to the Rusałka beach (near the ZOO). You can sign up for it online.
During the regatta, a "sailing town" will be built on Rusałka beach. In the town, among others, you will be able to swim on traditional boats and receive training on modern SUPs (Stand Up Paddles). For the needs of the regatta, an additional free ferry crossing from the boulevards to the beach will be launched, in addition to the MTA ferries. The whole event will end with a concert on the Rusałka beach, where Melancholia Hill will perform (at 8:30 p.m.) and – Agata Karczewska (at 9:15 p.m.).
A parade in Krakowskie Przedmieście
The first Mermaid Parade will begin on Saturday, June 4, at 3:30 p.m. at the Copernicus Monument. The event will be attended by mermaids representing Warsaw and the districts of Białołęka, Bielany, Mokotów, Ursynów, Wawer – the parade will move towards the Castle Square.
The parade will be accompanied by music from Ritmo Bloco and Brass Federacja. It will also include the historic Somua bus, the "Londoner" and the "Warsaw" car. Under the Sigismund's Column, Varsovians will be able to have fun together at the song "Warszawa da się lubić", which will be performed by Karolina Lizer.
