The end of a year traditionally means a time for recapitulations. At a meeting in the city hall, the efforts of local sportspeople were acknowledged by Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw. 18 competitors and 10 coaches received sports awards from the City of Warsaw.

“I meet you every year to thank you for your sporting efforts. Medals brought home and successful results make us all proud. I am overjoyed that once again during international competitions you covered Poland and Warsaw in glory,” Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw, told the audience.

28 December saw the meeting of sportspeople and their coaches with Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw. The event was also attended by Renata Kaznowska, Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, and Janusz Samel, Director of the Sports & Leisure Department of the City of Warsaw.

In total, the athletes were given prizes worth PLN 75,800. This, and the financial awards made earlier in 2016, gave us a total of over PLN 275,000.
Sports awards from the City of Warsaw are conferred pursuant to Resolution No. XXVII/562/2011 of the Warsaw City Council of 17 November 2011. Warsaw-based sports clubs and the relevant Polish sporting associations may propose that sportspeople and their coaches be granted awards for their sports achievements, as well as other people for their commitment for sporting activities. 39 such motions had been put forward by 31 January 2016. At its meeting in November, the Sports Awards Committee of the City of Warsaw accepted 28 such motions.
