The "Zodiak" building where the Economic Information Centre will be located, received the construction permit. It will be opened to visitors interested in economy and architecture of the Warsaw metropolis in 2018.
- The Economic Information Centre in the "Zodiak" building will be a special place. Its location in the very centre of the capital only emphasizes the role entrusted thereto and events which are to take place there. On the other hand, the EIC surroundings will gain new quality and create elegant and timeless space – says Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz the Mayor of Warsaw.
The Economic Information Centre (EIC) will be established in the restored building, the former "Zodiak", in the very heart of the capital at Pasaż Wiecha. The new "Zodiak" will be a two-storey building of light glazed structure. The reconstruction will also cover the plaza with total area of 900 m2 located between ul. Widok 26, ul. Chmielna 33 and 35 ul. Marszałkowska 104A.
The renovation of the building itself as well as the adjacent plaza, is the result of cooperation of the City of Warsaw and the Association of Architects of the Republic of Poland (SARP). The renovated building will contain exposition places for both institutions. On the first floor, the city will organise a multimedia exposition space intended for presentation of the Warsaw metropolis economy. As a result of applying the most advanced technological solutions it will focus on showing the foreign and domestic delegates the economic potential of the Warsaw Functional Area (WFA), that is the city of Warsaw and 39 surrounding communes. The Centre will be a special networking platform for communes, entrepreneurs and investors from this area. On the other hand, on the ground floor SARP intends to display architectonic suggestions for Warsaw, among others, using a model of Środmieście, which will show the panorama of the capital with the sky scrapers under development. The lower level will contain a cafe.
This new place on the map of Warsaw is to be a main feature of dynamically developing metropolitan area of the capital with a strong infrastructure and service facilities. WFA is a "crisis resistant" area of growing popularity in Europe developing into a region with high quality of life.
The Centre is created as part of the project called "Economic promotion of the Warsaw Functional Area" which goal is the increase in international relations of the Warsaw Functional Area through a direct support of entrepreneurs from the area of 40 communes in starting or development of export operations.
The project is co-financed from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Programme for Mazowieckie Voivodship. The author of reconstruction of the building is the Warsaw studio Kalata Architekci, while plaza in front of the "Zodiak" building is created by Gowin & Siuta company from Kraków. The building and plaza revitalisation works will be financed by the city of Warsaw.
