The athlete Anita Włodarczyk, Warsaw's flagship sportsperson, the world champion, who practises in the RKS Skra sports club, won a gold medal in the hammer throw on 15 August at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, with a staggering throw of 82.29 metres, a new world record, which was nearly 6 metres ahead of her rivals.
A year ago, in August 2015 in Władysławowo, her distance was 81.08 m. This made her the first woman to have exceeded the 80m barrier in the hammer throw. At the 2012 London Olympics she won the silver medal.
This year the talented hammer thrower was recognised as “the Sports Face of Warsaw” for the third time in a row. She received the distinction by winning the 16th poll on the Best Athletes in Warsaw 2015. She was also awarded the title in the 14th and 15th edition of this sports poll.
Congratulations on her success in Rio!
