Twenty representatives of the authorities of European cities, including the City of Warsaw, signed an appeal on the preference of citizens' health over the interest of industrial companies, addressed to governments.
The appeal starts with the following words: "We, mayors of selected European big cities, have the obligation to protect our citizens' health and provide them with healthy environment and decent life quality".
Soon, 80% of the European population will live in cities, and the air pollution results in serious health problems. WHO stated that flue gas emission causes 75 000 premature deaths in Europe per year.
Therefore, it is necessary to introduce revolutionary, bold European regulations and honest rules which should apply to all private companies throughout Europe, especially in the automotive industry.
The letter has been signed, among others, by the authorities of Warsaw, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Oslo, Stockholm and Vienna.
